GETTING THERE
Air
There are frequent flights from most of the major cities to Monterrey's
Mariano Escobedo international airport several times a day as it's the transport
hub of the northeast. The airport is about 6km northeast of the city and
can be accessed by taxi.
Bus
There are several bus companies that run services to Monterrey. The
best lines are Omnibus de Mexico and Transportes Chihuahuenses (central route),
and Frontera, Transportes del Norte and Autobuses del Oriente (eastern route).
There is also a second-class bus company, Estrella Blanca, which is lauded for
its frequent services and efficiency. All the buses arrive at the Central
Camionera station, northwest of the center on Avenida Colon.
Train
Travellers may ride the Copper Canyon railway to get to Monterrey.
This is one of the few functioning train journeys in Mexico and may as well be
taken just for the experience
GETTING AROUND
Metro
Metro is certainly the best way to get around Monterrey especially in the
downtown area. The elevated Line 1 runs east-west above Colon, and the
underground Line 2 runs from the north of the city to the Macroplaza, then
connect wih Line 1 at Cuauhemoc metro stop which is close to the bus station.
The system operates from 5am-midnight.
Bus
Monterrey has an extensive, but often perplexing bus system to visitors who
are not familiar with the city's streets. The most useful routes are
number 1, 17 and 18 which run north-south through town and out to the nortern
sights.
