Shopping & Nightlife

SHOPPING

Shopping is first rate in Monterrey as the city boasts several fine shopping centers.

Plaza San Pedro offers the choice of prestigious shops and large department stores where you can buy everything from grocery products to upscale clothes.  The modern corridors offer a grea stroll for window shopping as well.

Plaza Mexico
Located in the downtown of the city, Plaza Mexico has a colonial facade and feel about it.  Inside the building are numerous jewelry stores, shoe stores, fast food establishments, and even a playground for the children.  The real advantage is that prices offered here are more accessible than in other shopping malls.

Plaza Kinta
Plaza Kinta is a small mall packed with quality establishments and restaurants.  As the buying power here is very high, it's likely that most of the stores are high end brands such as Versace or Giorgio Armani.

Plaza Comercial Morelos
This is a place where you can shop and eat peacefully in the downtown area.  The shopping mall has a total of 240 stores with a large variety of shops: boutiques, drugstores, bookshops, household products and small fast food establishments which offer reasonable prices.

Galerias Monterrey
Galerias Monterrey is lauded for its modern shopping mall and first-class facilities.  Stores like Liverpool, Sanborn's and several other important brands are here where you can buy any product of your choice.  Besides a place for shopping and dining, it also offers a good strolling spot as well as an occasional amazing exhibits in the fast food area.

NIGHTLIFE

Escena
This is the largest discotheque in Monterrey and one of the best known.  The dance floor is spacious and comfortable to dance to the latest hit - especially rock.  Sometimes a famous soloist or band take the stage and give live performance.

Museo del Rock
Museo del Rock has music for all tastes once you pass the jukebox-shaped entrance to the inside, be it adrenalin-rushing rock 'n roll, corny songs from the 70s, rowdy music of the 80s or popular rhythms of the 90s.  The dance floor is large and has good lighting effects.

Tierra Luna
Tierra Luna is one of the best place in Monterrey to dine with a view.  Great tacos, succulent grilled beef cuts, excellent bar and marvellous live music can all be found here to enhance a romantic evening under the moon-lit sky.

Barroco
Not only famous for its live music and intoxicatingly merry atmosphere, the "Baroque" also provides space for diverse events such as book representations, lectures, and fashion shows among other events.  The "in" feature is the Friday night entertainment with an open bar.

Barrio Antiguo
Although situated in the old part of town, most regulars of this area are the young and young-at-hearts who enjoy the amplitude of nightlife available.  Plenty of live bands play commercial hits in the evenings when masses of partygoers come here after dinner to enjoy night time entertainment.

5a Avenida
The "5th Avenue" bar is located inside the Fiesta Americana, and offers a glitzy modern atmosphere in the late 19th-century surroundings, and offers everything from chilled Mexican beer to elaborate cocktail mixes.  People come here to dance to a variety of rhythms from rock to local fusion which are performed live.

Bar 1900
Bar 1900 is located inside the Ancira Hotel which is one of the most traditional of its kind in Monterrey.  A classic English decor and chandeliers hanging from the ceiling as well as dar wooden furniture and tenuous lighting fuse to provide intimate atmosphere for hanging out with friends over drinks and appetizers while listening to the varied music.

Cafe Iguana
Outstanding from other mainstream disco with an edgy, funky atmosphere, Cafe Iguana lures a large indy crowd with its live bands playing unreleased and non-commercial hard rock sounds.  The beers are excellent with an affordable 2 for 1 price.

Nirvana
Walk into the Plaza Fiesta San Augustin shopping center and you'll find this restaurant/bar nestled between Sears and JC Penny.  A salubrious meal from international cuisine are offered on the menu as well as a wide selection of refreshing cocktails.

Far West
Unlike the other parts of the country, the northern part boasts a tradition of rodeos which seeps into the atmosphere of this discotheque.  The main tunes are northern and country spun out by DJs and played by live bands.  To really be a part of the crowd and blend in with the atmosphere, you should wear jeans, cowboy boots and cowboy hat, but of course there's no real strict dress code to oblige yourself to.
