Dining

Apart from the traditional Mexican dishes, there is an abundance of international restaurants in Monterrey with a wide-selection of gourmet styles such as French, Italian, Japanese, Chinese, Spanish, South American, and vegetarian, to name just a few.  Fast food restaurants, cafeterias, and several restaurant-bars can also be found all over the city. Restaurants like Las Monjitas is a fun place to go for hearty meat dishes typical of Monterrey, as well as Coliseo Cafeteria.  Argentine food can be sampled at Che Porteno which shares a building with an Italian restaurant Iannilli under the same owner.  Gorditas Dona Tota is a fast-food-like chain restaurant which serves little gorditas for under $1 which makes it easy for one to become a regular there.

La Casa del Maiz is a modern place with unusual Mexican dishes, either with or without meat.  The recommended menu is the memelas la maica, a kind of thick tortilla topped with a richly seasoned spinach and cheese salsa.  Cafe Paraiso is late-closing, multi-roomed cafe and bar serving a great range of coffees, tasty and huge tortas with fries and decent-price drink.  El Rincon La Habana serve Cuban menu with fascinating nightly live music.  For those looking for wholesome pastry or light snacks and some of Monterrey's best espressos and lattes, a visit to El Infinito will certainly turn out to be an amazing discovery.  And if, after trying out these choices you still yearn for something less exotic, Sanborn's can be located for some easy continental-fare sandwiches and snacks as well.
