GETTING THERE

Air
Merida's Manuel Crecencio Rejon airport is 7km southwest of the city center.  Visitors can get to Merida from Mexico City and Cancun as well as cities in the U.S.  From the airport, taxi and mini van or colectivos can take you to the downtown area.  Be sure to buy a ticket from a desk at the airport before hopping in.

Bus
The bus journey from Mexico City takes about 24 hours.  There are several first and second-class bus companies to choose from such as Ticketbus, ADO GL, UNO, CAME, Caribe Express, Autotransportes del Caribe.

Car
If you are planning to drive to Merida from Mexico City, the journey will take around 24 hours.  Booking for a car in Mexico in advance is likely to save you money, unless you bring your own vehicle across the border.

GETTING AROUND

Most of the places in central Merida are within walking distance, but you may also find a ride on one of the traditional horse-drawn carriages exciting.  If you want to go visit the museum or the Mayan sites out the central city, you'll need to take a taxi which can be easily hailed off the street, or take a bus which can be flagged down at any corner.
