SHOPPING

Shopping in Ixtapa comes with a class as most the shops are housed in a series of colonial-style shopping centers.  Paseo Ixtapa which is the main street along the hotel zone is where most of the shops are located.  The main shopping centers are Los Patios, Plaza Ixpamar, Las Fuentes and La Puerta.  For inexpensive handicrafts and souvenirs, stop by the Mercado de Artesania Turistico at the southern edge of Ixtapa.

DINING

Most establishments capitalize on the catch of the day, which might be lobster, clams, oysters, gian crayfish or fish, particularly red snapper.  Dining can be both an indoor and outdoor sport in Ixtapa, and the restaurants distinguished for seafood are La Sirena Gorda, Tamales y Atoles Any, El Borracho, JJ's Lobster and Shrimp, and La Perla.  Traditional tortas with fruit drinks or coffees are the main menu of Nueva Zelanda.  JJ's Grill in the center of the town is renowned for its beef specialties such as juicy burgers and steaks.  Continental food is widely available at many restaurants, include La Casa Que Canta, Villa de la Selva, Villa del Sol, and Bogart's.  Beccofino serves excellent Italian cuisine inside its stylish Mediterranean decor.  Garrobo's is also famous for its Spanish dishes.

NIGHTLIFE

Ixtapa has a wide range of nightlife venues.  In addition, several major hotels in Ixtapa also offer a sunset happy hour as well as a traditional Mexican fiesta, complete with cocktails, mariachis, handicraft bazaars and dancing.  Discos are popular in Mexico, and Hotel Krystal's Christine is considered one of Ixtapa's best as upscale guests come to dance here until daylight.  Carlos 'n' Charlie's is a beachfront disco where you can choose to dance on the raised platform or right on the beach with water lapping your heels.  A great spot for drinks is El Faro, a piano bar atop the lighthouse in the marina which allows you to sip your choice of drinks while taking in the panoramic view of the resort.  Senor Frog's is a wild place where customers are literally encouraged to dance on the tables.  Millennium is an upscale hi-tech disco with laser lighting and heavy beat music that will keep your feet spinning on the dance floor, while Los Mandiles has huge video projector to accentuate the party mood while you dance the night away.  For more sophisticated bar where you can socialize while listening to faint background music, Zen next to Radisson Hotel, Sanka Bar inside the Hotel Barcelo, and Liquid with its after hours martini bar are places to go.
