GETTING THERE
Air
Cancun's Aeropuerto Internacional Cancun (CUN) is 26km southwest of Cancun
and 10km from the Zona Hotelera's southernmost point. Many flights to and
from Cancun also stop at Cozumel. After arrival at the airport, you can
take a taxi, a mini van or deluxe car to get to the city.
Bus
First and second-class buses from all over Mexico arrive at the downtown Bus
Terminal in Cancun. The main bus companies servicing the coast are ADO and
Playa Express. If you come from the U.S., you can take a trans-border tour
via Greyhound as well.
GETTING AROUND
Bus
The public bus system in Cancun is well-organized, and offer a convenient
choice of transportation between Ciudad Cancun and the beaches of Isla Cancun.
The buses typically run daily 6am-midnight. Playa Express runs shuttle
buses to destinations within the Yucatan, including Chichen Itza and Tulum.
Car
There are several car rental companies in Cancun offering a wide variety of
midsize and luxury cars not different from the types you find in the U.S. or
Canada. However, driving is recommended only when you want to explore the
surrounding areas on the peninsula as driving in the city could be difficult
with potholes, ill-placed speed bumps and sporadically working traffic lights.
Taxi
It's easy to flag down a taxi off the road in Cancun. Prices depend on
distance, and most hotels make it easier for their guests by listing rates at
the door. However, the price can be lessened somewhat if you bargain or
hail a taxi on the avenue instead of in front of your hotel. Be sure to
agree on the price before hopping into the cab.
Ferries
There are several ferries and speed boat services available in Cancun such
as the Cancun-Isla Mujeres Ferry, NautiTaxi, and Puerto Juarez-Isla Mujeres
Ferry.
