Attractions of Cancun
Cancun Museum
Located on the ground floor of the city's convention center, the Cancun Museum houses an impressive collection of 1,000 to1,500-year-old artifacts as well as carvings and frescoes which relate the history of the Maya civilization.

National Institute of Anthropology and History
This governor's residence-turn-museum has several exhibits of artifacts, jewelry, myths and explanation on customs of the Maya culture and history.  Admission charge is exempted on Sunday only.

Isla Mujeres
The Isla Mujeres is only six miles from Cancun and offers three excellent beaches to the visitors.  At the northern end, Playa de los Cocos is the most popular beach with its calm waters and availability of every kind of water sports.  Playa Lancheros at the southern end is a perfect secluded getaway with a separate area for swimming whereas the national underwater park, Playa Garrafon, is a beautiful and an ideal spot for snorkeling.

Isla Holbox
For aficionados of tranquil paradise on earth, there is no better place around Cancun than the Isla Holbox in the north.  Since there are no paved roads, visitors and villagers are spared from the disturbing noise of car engines and smell of exhaustion.  The sands here are strewn with hundreds of seashells and the turquoise water is amicably bathtub warm.

Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve
This million-acre area of nature reserve is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.  Visitors to the reserve will get a chance to observe the mutual existence between ecological diversity as well as the agricultural and ecological opportunities for the native to make a living.

Xcaret
Xcaret is a waterside park with an ecological theme.  Here you'll find choices of interesting aspects to keep you occupied such as the museum and restaurant, a scenic outlook point, the beaches, the cove, wildlife santuary and the dolphin swimming area.  There is also a light and sound tour in the caves at night.

Xel-ha
Xel-ha was once a sacred Maya city between Tulum and Cancun, but today it has become a natural aquarium where you can swim and snorkel with the fish.  A group of coves and lagoons here are the marvellous ecological product from the sea mixes with natural fresh water springs.

Tulum
Built between 1200 and 1500 A.D., Tulum is the Mayans' only walled city and is an easy day-trip away from Cancun.  Since there is no restaurant at Tulum, visitors can pack a picnic lunch and enjoy it on the cliffs overlooking the ocean.

Chichen Itza
This is certainly one of the most extensive complex of Mayan ruins in Mexico.  The history of Chichen Itza dates back to 600 A.D.  The stately pyramid of Kulkulkan looms in the center, surrounded by its accompanying buildings.  The observatory here was used by the ancient Mayans for the purpose of astronomical and agricultural calculation.
