Transportation

GETTING THERE

Air
Los Carbos International Airport (SJD) is about 48km away from Cabo San Lucas.  Flying time to SJD is 2 1/2 hours from Los Angeles, 2 1/2 hours from Houston, and 2 hours from Mexico City.  Airlines that service this airport are AeroCalifornia, Aeromexico, Alaska Airlines, America West, Continental and Mexicana.  After arriving at the airport, you can go to the transportation desk by the exit from the airport to arrange a ride into town.

Bus
Travelling by bus in Mexico today is convenient, cost-saving and efficient.  Bus lines that service Cabo San Lucas are Autotransportes de Baja California, Tres Estrellas de Oro and Aguila.  They stop at the junction of Mexico 19 and the Cabo bypass about 2km outside the city, and from there you can either take a 20-minute walk or flag down a taxi for a US$3 ride to the city.  Visitors travelling from the U.S. can take Greyhound to one of the border cities and transfer to Mexican bus from your point of entry.

Car
Mexico Highway 1, also known as the Carretera Transpeninsular, runs 1,700km from Tijuana to Cabo San Lucas.  The highway's condition varies along the way depending on the weather and intervals between road repairs.  It is recommended that the trip is taken during daylight because the roads are not lighted.

Ship
There are several cruise lines that use Cabo San Lucas as a port of call.  Such cruise companies include Carnival, Princess, Royal Caribbean, and Baja Expeditions.

GETTING AROUND

Bus
Just about all of Cabo San Lucas can be explored on foot, but if you prefer there are local buses available, and it's probably the cheapest transportation from here to San Jose del Cabo and other destinations in Baja California.

Taxi
Taxis in Cabo San Lucas are efficient and aplenty, but they are not metered so it's necessary to agreed on the price before you get into the cab.

Car
Renting a car is not actually necessary unless you'd like to explore the outlying beaches and towns on your own.  Usually you can make an arrangement by phone or at the airport desks upon your arrival.
